The Bird That Never Dies
Upcycling · Circular Design · Material Memory · Transformation · Phoenix

The Bird That Never Dies explores transformation through an upcycled fashion collection created primarily from donated second-hand garments and textile remnants.
Around 80% of the materials used in the collection came from existing clothing and recovered textiles. Rather than treating these materials as anonymous waste, the project considered each garment as something that had already carried a life, a body and a personal history.
Like the phoenix, the collection gives discarded garments another life: instead of becoming waste, each piece is dismantled, transformed and reborn into a new form — carrying its previous identity into a new one.
Donors were invited to share memories connected to their garments. These stories were preserved through QR-linked labels integrated into the project, allowing the previous life of each material to remain accessible after its transformation.
Through pattern cutting, garment construction and experimental textile manipulation, existing pieces were dismantled, reconfigured and combined into new forms. The project explored how a material can acquire a new identity without erasing the one it carried before.
